Adding icon to taskbar not working in Windows 7

Postby fastluck » Mon Mar 08, 2010 3:21 pm

I don't think this is an Actual Installer issue. But I haven't been able to solve it by googling the problem, so here goes:

Right-clicking on the Actual Installer icon does not show the "Pin to Taskbar" option. If I drag the icon to the taskbar, the "invalid operation" icon appears. According to what I've been able to find on the web, the cause of the problem is because users have made the shortcut in Windows 7 to be ‘not a shortcut’ by removing the shortcut arrow on icons (including desktop icons) by removing IsShortcut registry key. I don't think this is correct though, because the workarounds given don't actually work.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

John

I found the solution here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/39 ... links.html. There's a folder on your system that you can copy the link to. If the link's in that folder, it will be placed on your taskbar automatically.

Windows 7 does not support this "Pin to Taskba" feature if the file name contains the following words:
install
setup
uninstall

So you just need to rename the Actual Installer shortcut to: e.g. Actual Inst and then pin it to the taskbar.
