Updater, can't make it work

Post by davem »

Hi Leo,
:? We all know Updater works, otherwise you would have a lot of unhappy users and the Forum would be overflowing. So, what's the big secret? My original install package works fine (v4.0.8) with AI, but all the update packages I've built (or been trying to build) and uploaded over the last three days give the error "Incorrect update information".
1. Product name is the same in both Install and Update packages. Update program name is named TF4Update.exe.
2. Update package includes 1x exe, 3x dll, 1x datafile, 2x copy-protection files. No .ini file updates are configured, but I would like to.
3. Both packages have "Include uninstaller" checked
4. Update text file ("update.txt") contains:
4.0.8a <-- didn't work with 4.0.9 either
http://www.truckfindersite.com/Upd-Isx/TFxUpdt.exe
(TFxUpdt.exe is created with IExpress.exe, so is a "packaged" [zipped] version of TF4Update.exe)
Projects are attached, and I'd be thankful for any help you can offer or ideas you have.

I'm trying to get rid of an old Install Shield Express, and otherwise AI is great (if maybe a bit quirky). I don't pretend to be an expert installer, so please use small words in reply. Thanks in advance, and
Best regards,
Dave

Hi Dave,
Sorry for the delay!

The link you provided is broken. And what is the URL to the update text file?

Oops, moved it on Saturday, trying various things. The correct URL is http://truckfindersite.com/Upfile/IsuExp/update.txt. It points to TFUpdt.exe, which (I think) is the problem but error message is not very descriptive ("Incorrect update information"). Is it my text file, or the packaged TFUpdt.exe that's causing the error, and do you have any idea how to make it correct? Any other info I can supply, please let me know. I won't move anything around while waiting for your reply. Thanks, and
Best regards,
Dave

The issue solved by changing the version number from 4.0.8a to 4.0.8.1
