Possible causes for 'Error creating directory'

Post by sesruss »

I have a client who is have an error message popup during the installation of an application we wrote.

'Error creating directory:'

'Access is denied'

'Installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator.'

At our office several people have run the installer with no issue. Our client has tried this on a couple of different machines and is seeing the same error message.

I am told they are running the install as as administrator and that despite the error message the application seems to run fine.

We and our client are running Windows 7.

I realize this is kind of an open ended question but I was hoping for some direction on what to look for. That error message is what I would expect if you were to try installing a program on your machine without admin privileges and since the app itself seems to run fine I'm not sure where to look.

Hi,
In your project, is the option "Require Administrator Privileges" selected?
And what is the full path of that directory?

There are actually 2 seperate applications. I posted the question as if there was one to keep things simple. They are completely independent of each other.

App1:
Require Admin Privs = unchecked

App2:
Require Admin Privs = checked

I'm assuming you are talking about the install path?

C:\Program Files (x86)\Walt Disney Movies\Magic Beans

C:\Program Files (x86)\Walt Disney Movies\Donald Duck

Since you are trying to install in the system directory (Program Files), the option "Require Administrator Privileges" should be selected.
