Actual Updater

Post by Jimdandy1956 »

First of all I love your program, it is more than I expected and for the most part very user friendly.
I am a light programmer and I am having a hard time understanding the instructions for setting up the Update Info URL. Can you explain a little clearer as to how exactly I create the online file. Is it truely a .txt file or what extension does it need to be? An example file would help a lot, so I can see exactly what is required.
Thanks

Thank you for your message.

Update Info URL - URL to plain text file that contains the update information.

File structure:
First line: "New version number"
Second line: "Download link to new version"

Example (update.txt):

Code: Select all

1.5
http://www.mysite.com/newversion.exe

Could I request more detail on the sequence of events when the Updater is invoked?

I would actually like to better understand this process. When one puts a version in the text file, what is it checking against?

How Actual Updater works:
1. AU downloads an update information file, e.g. "update.txt" from your website;
2. AU compares version numbers from downloaded file and from 'Uninstall.ini' (or "Updater.ini") file of currently installed application;
3. AU prompts to download new setup if version is newer.
