Update files only, not existing ODBC settings

Post by fof9l »

We have a PowerBuilder database application in use at a few large corporate clients. The front end sits on the individual machine of each user, and it logs onto a database on a corporate server, via ODBC. From time to time we update our front-end application, and we want to distribute updates to clients, but currently, using an installer built by one of your big competitors, the only way to do this is via a package that also includes the ODBC DSN, and that resets all the carefully worked-out server settings for that particular client. Worse, if we don't include the ODBC drivers, the installer thinks they're no longer part of the package, and deletes the ODBC driver from the client machine. What I want to do is simply to update the files we have changed, leaving everything else untouched. "Their" installer doesn't seem to be able to do that. Can yours please?

Thanks,

Nigel
