I'd like to recommend a way to create a manual "Check for Updates" hyperlink for developers to include in their applications. This would allow end users to check for a manual update instead of waiting for the next reboot to be notified that there is an update.

By default, when you use Updater, the setup program creates a shortcut "Check for Updates" in Start Menu.
You can see it on the page Installation \ Shortcuts.

Is there a way to set a name for this "Check for Update" in the start menu shortcut? It would be better if it included the application name so the user knows what application is checking for an update.

Sure. You can name this shortcut how you wish.
Go to the Installation Shortcuts page and double-click on the "<InstallDir>\Updater.exe" item.
Then change the Shortcut Name field.
