move / insert files

Post by davem »

Hi Leo,
Was I dreaming, or did I see tiny arrows at the bottom of the Additional Files page? While re-building a project last week and checking the files with v5.2, I saw the little arrows, and indeed was able to move files around -- a really useful and welcome feature. Looking today, they aren't there. Have I lost my mind, or is there a setting I've messed up?

Everything else is working fine, including updates (thanks for you help with that!). Customers are pleased, and for us Install Shield has dissolved into the mists of history. AI is a great product. Many thanks.

Hello Dave,

Seems, this was a dream or you saw it on the Commands page :)

May I know why do you want this feature?

Hi Leo,
You're right (of course), the arrows are on the "Commands" page. Would be great on "Additional Files" and "Ini Files" pages too.

I put this request in the Suggestions forum on 13/02/2013. Since then, I've figured out how to take the AIP file from Notepad into Excel and organise my files and directories that way (sort & re-number). Not elegant, but functional.

INI files are a bit trickier, since some key values are separated by comma (a,b,c...etc), but the AIP -> Notepad -> Excel method also works. If there's any possibility of adding the up/down arrows, or having an Insert command, that would be cool.

The Notepad route also works a treat when creating an Update project: Just copy / paste the GUID from the Install project to the Update project's AIP file.
Thanks, and
Best regards,
Dave

Hi Dave,

We'll add the Up/Down arrows on the Additional Files tab in version 5.4.

Thanks for suggestion!
